Axis and NETGEAR Offer First Affordable PoE Solution that Addresses the Surveillance Market for Small and Medium-sized Businesses
NETGEAR ProSafe™ Power-over-Ethernet Switches in Combination with Axis Network Cameras offer Easy and Economical Video Surveillance and Monitoring
CHELMSFORD, MA and SANTA CLARA, CA. – Nov. 30, 2004 - Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market and NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced a marketing collaboration to offer cost-effective and high performance IP surveillance solutions featuring Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. Axis network cameras, in combination with NETGEAR ProSafe PoE switches such as the ProSafe 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch with PoE (FS108P), enable companies to easily and economically deploy network video systems while maintaining high levels of security and reliability.
The Axis and NETGEAR solution offers small and medium-sized businesses a compact and simple means to quickly deploy network cameras for surveillance applications. This solution leverages established network infrastructure, and by utilizing Power over Ethernet, eliminates the need to place the network cameras near a power outlet or pay to install new power outlets costing thousands of dollars. Using NETGEAR’s IEEE 802.3af compatible PoE switches, Axis network cameras can be powered through the Ethernet cable, giving companies more flexibility in the design and installation of security and surveillance systems. In addition, power to the cameras can be centrally backed up using an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) device for continued operation of the surveillance system during power outages.
High-performance or high-end PoE managed switches have primarily been used in the enterprise market for applications such as VoIP. NETGEAR ProSafe 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch with PoE (FS108P) offers an affordable, easy to install PoE switch, which in combination with the AXIS 211 Network Camera, is the first solution that enables mass deployment of surveillance gear for small and medium-sized businesses.
“Axis and NETGEAR are focusing on the rapidly growing market of network cameras, offering more features than their analog counterparts,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. “PoE technology lowers installation and cabling costs of installing a security system. Making PoE even more affordable enables more small and medium-sized businesses to improve their security using network cameras.”
“PoE solutions save customers time and money while seamlessly integrating into the existing network infrastructure,” said Kevin Allan, Director of Business Product Management and Marketing at NETGEAR. “Security is an ongoing concern for many businesses, and we see this convergence of network cameras and PoE technology enabling businesses to safeguard their employees and property.”
Axis network video products and NETGEAR ProSafe network products are currently available in the U.S. market through main distribution and reseller channels.
